I Built a Filmmaking Truck | Converting a Van for Film Gear & Production
In this video, I walk you through the biggest investment I’ve made into filmmaking so far — buying and converting a small van into a fully functional filmmaking truck. As filmmakers, we spend a huge amount of time organising, transporting, and managing gear, and inefficient setups can quietly destroy productivity on set. After losing too much time loading and unloading gear from my car, I bought an empty Mitsubishi L300 and turned it into a Swiss-Army filmmaking van designed for real-world shoots. My Portable Follow Focus and Director’s Monitor Build
Take a look at my First AC follow focus + director’s monitor rig—a super portable setup built from SmallRig mounts, 15mm rods, Tilta Nucleus Nano, and a SmallHD 5” monitor. I wanted something lightweight, customizable, and fast to deploy on set: handheld, clamped to a C-stand/light stand, or resting beside camera when changing lenses. This isn’t a “copy this exactly” build—it's a blueprint of ideas you can adapt to your own gear. I reused a ton of existing parts: 50mm rod handle, old shoulder-rig grip, MPF battery to DC/USB plate, dummy LP-E6 power, tension-adjustable monitor mount, female-to-female HDMI extender, and a coiled cable for clean cable management. What this rig does: ✅ Portable follow focus workstation ✅ Director’s monitor / focus puller station ✅ Powered entirely from MPF batteries ✅ USB out for Nucleus Nano + DC out for SmallHD ✅ Easily docks to a light stand for hands-free operation ✅ Space for expansion: wireless video receiver, V-lock plate, cheese plate, extra rods, etc. If you're a 1st AC, DP, or indie filmmaker looking to build a compact, modular focus pulling rig (on a budget), this breakdown might give you ideas. Also works great with Blackmagic, RED, Sony, Canon, Z-Cam, or Panasonic cameras. ► More gear breakdowns on the channel: camera build, sound kit, and camera case setup. Thanks for watching—and let me know how YOU build your follow focus station! Inside My Filmmaking Camera Case
What’s Inside My Filmmaking Camera Case? | Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Rig Setup Today I’m giving you a full tour of my camera case for filmmaking — everything I bring to set, how it’s packed, and how it all works together. If you’re a gearhead, camera assistant, indie filmmaker, or Blackmagic shooter, this is for you. In the center of the case is my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K rigged with an Olympus 12-40mm, quick-release tilted dovetail plates, and a fully built shoulder rig so I don’t waste time assembling rods and handles on set. You’ll see how I power the entire system with MPF batteries, run a Tilta Nucleus N follow focus, and keep everything lightweight enough for handheld operating. I also go through: ✅ Lens setup & zoom gear ✅ SSD workflow (Samsung T5) ✅ Zacuto viewfinder + magic arm ✅ Battery management system ✅ Micro Four Thirds to Canon EF Metabones adapter ✅ Director’s viewfinder, cleaning kit & tool pouch ✅ My mini “1st AC” accessories bag for quick-grab parts on set This rig is a kit-bash of parts from multiple brands and older builds — it’s evolved over 10 years of shooting. It’s not the “perfect” rig, but it’s reliable, fast to deploy, and designed to get out of the way so I can focus on filmmaking. 🎥 I’ll also be making videos on the camera rig itself, the 1st AC/Directors monitor + focus station, and my sound bag setup. My Full Blackmagic 4K Cinema Rig
Take a look at my current cinema camera rig! It's a compact, streamlined camera build I use on my short films. I’m running the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k (BMPCC4K) with an Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 (Micro Four Thirds), giving me an effective 24–80mm zoom range without ever needing to swap lenses. The camera is fully wrapped in a Tilta full cage, complete with HDMI and USB-C cable clamps/corner pins for rock-solid connections. It uses a 15mm rod system, short rod for the Nucleus Nano follow focus motor, a second manual follow focus I use for zoom control, and quick release / dovetail plate, and a single NPF battery to power the camera and follow focus motor. It records to external SSD media, uses the Deity TC-1 timecode system, the Tilta Mini Matte Box, and how the whole build stays compact enough to live fully assembled inside a case — ready to shoot instantly. No time consuming teardown/setups, nice and easy! If you’re into filmmaking rigs, camera setups, or indie cinema gear, you’ll love this one. My Audio Kit for Filmmaking
Today I’m breaking down my full audio kit for indie filmmaking — the exact gear I use on short films and low-budget productions. I’m an indie filmmaker, working mostly self-funded, so every piece of gear needs to be affordable, reliable and good enough for film-quality dialogue without hiring a full sound team. If you’re into budget filmmaking gear, recording clean dialogue, or building a small-but-capable sound kit, this video is for you. Inside the kit: 🎧 Audio Technica monitoring headphones 🎤 Samsung CO2 dual microphones 🎤 Rode NTG1 shotgun mic 🎤 Zoom on-camera shotgun (with deadcat) 🎚 Tascam FR-AV2 32-bit float audio recorder (timecode capable) 🎚 Zoom F3 recorder ⏱ Deity TC-1 timecode generators (three-pack) 🎛 XLR cables, aux cables, adaptors, clamps, wind protection, DIY PVC blimp case 📦 Tool-bag based sound kit for compact transport and fast setup This kit isn’t a “professional sound recordist” setup, but for low-budget filmmaking, YouTube filmmaking, short films and solo shooters, it covers most situations: boom pole recording, on-camera audio, dual-system recording, timecode sync and wind protection. The only things noticeably missing are high-end lavalier mics and a pro shotgun upgrade, but renting lavs keeps costs down. If you’re a filmmaker building your own low-budget sound kit or trying to squeeze the best audio possible from a small crew, hopefully this helps. Feel free to ask questions — happy to chat gear.
